MY FIT SYDNEY: ALEX ‘CHUMPY’ PULLIN, SNOWBOARDER

Sure, he’s snowboarded on some of the world’s most beautiful slopes, won his fair share of world titles (World Cup, anyone?), plus he is the first Australian ever to win the coveted World Champions in La Molina, Spain. Since then Red Bull athlete Alex ‘Chumpy’ Pullin has competed in the Winter Olympics, even more World Championships and the Winter X Games, but when he’s not on the side of a mountain, kitted out for speed, he spends his time in Sydney’s northern beaches. Here’s where you’ll find him on any given weekend:

So Alex, where’s the best place to go for a run in Sydney?
“Usually I just run up Dee Why beach to Long Reef headland and back. Watching the waves while running keeps my mind off how far I have to go! Haha!”

Where do you think is Sydney’s best healthy brunch spot?

“Definitely Banana Blossom in Mona Vale (they have a couple of different locations). I’ve been going there for ages and it’s awesome!”

Do you have a favourite place to swim?
“Well, I’d hopefully be surfing if there were waves and that would be at any of the beautiful northern beaches of Sydney.”

The best coffee?
“I love Sea Bar on Dee Why beach. They have the best coffee and I can check the surf while I drink it.”

Where should we go for a bush/coastal walk?
“I walk with my girlfriend El most mornings along Curl Curl Beach, but climbing up to Barrenjoey Lighthouse at Palmy [Palm Beach] is really good for an epic view!” (Pictured above)

Where would be find you when you train?
“I train at the gym out at the Academy of Sport  in Narrabeen, and have done my fair share of hard sessions out there. And there’s some fun MTB tracks out around the Academy of Sport, if you know where to look…”

So what’s your favourite Sydney view?
“I think North Head in Manly, looking back towards the city (above), is pretty awesome. But the view from Barrenjoey Lighthouse is probably my favourite.”

And lastly, tell us, what’s your ultimate wellbeing tip?
“Get enough sleep and eat well!”
