Here are our top 5 picks:

BEST FOR… stress release and body toning
Spinning is one of those almost cult-like endeavours – that’s how euphoric it make its devotees feel after a sweaty class. And the king of the spinning world is the famous Soul Cycle studios in New York. For Sydney’s closest alternative,  Scenic Cycle in the CBD lets you sweat out your stresses and leave on a high. In a dark room with loud music, follow the beat and watch the screens – which depict various virtual setups, from the Alps to Abu Dhabi. Before you know it, you’ll have smashed a 45-minute workout and be rushing out the door to sign up for your next class. A word of warning, however. This studio is seriously addictive! From $35 for two weeks unlimited intro offer.

BEST FOR… a killer flat tummy
Had a stressful morning? Head to Barre Body in the CBD, where the light, airy studio and floor-to-ceiling windows are bound to chill you out before you even start your workout. Book in for a Barre Tone class to integrate Pilates with Barre work and hand weights. In 45 minutes, you’ll really feel the burn and engage your core – but leave energised and ready to take on the afternoon. For those looking to pick up a spot of sustenance on the way back to the office, Pablo & Rusty’s just opposite the studio does great coffee. Meanwhile, there are plenty of other healthy cafes around to pick up lunch, too. From $50 for two weeks unlimited intro offer.

BEST FOR…nailing those power arms
With experts saying rowing is the exercise to do if you want an all-round toned body, it was only a matter of time before a boutique studio dedicated entirely to it popped up. And Crew is just that. Offering a 45-minute powerhouse workout of high-intensity rowing combined with bodyweight exercises, dumbbells and resistance bands, you will work hard during your session – and most likely leave dripping in sweat. When you’re struggling, just remember the good news with Crew is that you will be working every muscle in your body – and you will see results if you keep going. Power arms, Michelle Obama-style? Yes, please! From $12 for first class, then $28 per class.

BEST FOR… helping you fix ‘office back’
The second Barre – a hybrid of ballet, Pilates and yoga – workout to make it to the CBD list, Xtend Barre deserves its place here because it’s quickly become one of Sydney’s best Barre studios – and offers workouts that are as fun as they are beneficial. The exercise of choice for countless Victoria’s Secret angels, Barre is a great way to tone your muscles and lengthen your body. It will also help to make you more aware of your posture, if you’re someone who is slumped in an office chair all day. From $49 for two weeks unlimited intro offer.

BEST FOR… Swimming with a view
Cheap, cheerful and  picturesque – what more could you want from an outdoor swim in Sydney’s city? For just $6.50, you can enjoy entry to the Andrew Boy Charlton Pool – and its epic views of the Botanic Gardens and Sydney Harbour. Filled with chemically-treated salt water, Andrew Boy Charlton Pool is often busy in the summer, but it’s SO worth it. There’s also a licensed café with Campos coffee, a decking area where you can sunbathe, a massage centre and daybeds to relax on. If you’re not on your lunch break, bring a book and make a day of it. The best $6.50 you could ever spend.
